Trump earlier in the day claimed Harris “was always of Indian heritage” but in recent years “she happened to turn Black.”
Many critics condemned Trump’s attack on Harris, who is half Indian and half Black.
But Vance, who is Trump’s vice presidential candidate, defended his running mate, telling reporters that the former president “pointed out the fundamental chameleon-like nature of Kamala Harris.”
“She’s flip-flopped on every issue,” said Vance, according to The Hill. “She’s fake. She’s phony. And I think our whole campaign is going to have a very fun time pointing that out.”
He made a similar remark at a rally in Arizona:
But Vance might not be the best person to point that out given his own chameleon-like nature and extensive history of flip-flopping, especially on Trump.
Vance in 2016 told a friend that Trump might be “America’s Hitler,” called him a “terrible candidate,” and said he “never liked him.” Vance has also flip-flopped on a range of issues from climate change to Social Security.
