On March 29, the officer pursued a Mazda and a truck at Finch Ave. and Humberline Dr. as he suspected the vehicles were involved in stealing machinery from a business, according to the Special Investigations Unit.
The officer allegedly didn’t stop at a red light and sped through the intersection without making sure all traffic had yielded.
The officer’s vehicle struck a Mercedes Sprinter van that had entered the intersection on a green light. A man was taken to a hospital with two fractured vertebrae.
“Director (Joseph) Martino found the officer was not as careful as he should have been, but concluded his conduct fell short of transgressing the limits of care prescribed by the criminal law,” the SIU said in a news release.
