Seth Meyers on Thursday mockingly noted how two of Donald Trump’s once-fiercest critics in the GOP went on to grow beards after performing a full 180 and declaring their devout loyalty to the former president.
Both Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Trump’s newly announced running mate, JD Vance (R-Ohio), started sporting facial hair after beginning to back the Republican presidential nominee.
“What is it with guys who went from hardcore Trump critics to subservient Trump toadies growing beards?” Meyers asked. “It’s like they said, ‘If I endorsed him, I can never look myself in the mirror again’ and then realized, ‘Oh, but maybe it won’t be too bad if I change the way I look.’”
Meyers imagined them saying to their reflection in a mirror, “Oh, look at you, you’re a different guy, you’re a different guy. You’re not that guy; you’re a different guy; you’ve got a big old beard.”
