Canada loses to Japan at Softball World Cup, will face Netherlands for bronze

CASIONS DI STRADA, Italy — Kyoko Ishikawa’s two-run single highlighted Japan’s five-run fourth inning in a 7-2 win over Canada on Friday at the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals.

Canada finished the Super Round at 1-2 and will face the Netherlands for the bronze medal on Saturday, while Japan plays the top-ranked United States for gold.

Hotaru Tsukamotom and Ayana Karoji also drove in two runs for world No. 3 Japan, while Yume Kiriishi also had an RBI.

Larissa Franklin had an RBI double for Canada, while Caitlyn Wong scored on an error. 

Miu Goto allowed no runs and struck out three over 4 2/3 innings to pick up the win for Japan. Mio Sakamoto earned the save with one earned run allowed and three strikeouts over 2 1/3 innings.

Dawn Bodrug allowed six runs on nine hits and struck out three over 3 2/3 innings for No. 5 Canada. Katie Korstrom allowed one run and struck out four over 2 1/3 innings of relief.
