Kate Beckinsale is thanking Britney Spears after the pop star defended her from online bullies in a passionate Instagram message.

Earlier this week, Spears, 42, threw her support behind Beckinsale in a lengthy Instagram statement.

“I realized how incredibly cruel people were talking about her IG saying she she needs more age appropriate content .. she’s in her fifties and I thought it was pretty badass how she responded with a mini bow in her hair looking literally 4 years old 👍🏻👍🏻!!” Spears wrote of the Underworld star.

Beckinsale re-shared Spears’ post to her Instagram Stories and thanked Toxic hitmaker for her words of encouragement.

“Women supporting women is my favourite thing,” she wrote. “Thank you @Britneyspears, warrior queen of all queens for your incredibly sweet post all the love right back.”

Beckinsale also opened up about women supporting women in Hollywood hasn’t always been the norm, sharing a selfie video to her Instagram Stories and tagging Spears and other celebrities like Jameela Jamil, Susan Sarandon, Rose McGowan, Selma Blair, Demi Moore and the late Shannen Doherty.

“What I will say is that it is almost always the women who have walked through fires that we can’t fathom how hard that must be who are the ones who are first to reach out and see if another person is doing OK,” she said. “And it is so often those who’ve received fairly brutal treatment that will actually reach out to somebody in a way easier position to check if they’re OK.”

The Serendipity star said that the “ecosystem” of the movie industry pits actresses against one another, but that’s no longer the case.

“I’m here for people being supportive of each other, people checking on each other, and I will say … that it is usually the people who have been through s*** that you just cannot fathom that are the most sensitive and the most generous,” she concluded her video.

Beckinsale has frequently battled critics of her Instagram posts. Earlier this month, the British actress shared a clip of herself in pink bikini bottoms, a revealing crop top, a giant hair bow and knee-high boots firing back at people who “get themselves really upset” and criticize her for not “doing enough age-appropriate things.”

“I thought I’d let them kick off their week with a little stab of joy, of me putting on a hair net,” she said in the video.

“Let’s have a toast for the douche bags / Let’s have a toast for the a****** / Let’s have a toast for the scumbags 😘😘😘😘,” she captioned the post.

When one follower asked why her “ass ran away,” Beckinsale replied: “I watched my stepfather die quite shockingly, my mother has stage 4 cancer, and I lost a lot of weight from stress and grief, quite quickly.”

She then told the commentator to “worry about your own f***ing ass,” adding, “I suggest shoving something up it — like a large pineapple or a brick.”

Beckinsale also fired a shot at detractors this week when she posed in a black one-piece swimsuit emblazoned with the phrase “I did not ask your opinion.”

Spears’ defence of Beckinsale earlier this week was prompted, in part, by the criticism she received from the Osbournes during an episode of their The Osbournes Podcast.

Ozzy, 75, said he was “fed up of seeing poor old Britney Spears on YouTube. Every f***ing day. You know, it’s sad. Very, very sad.”

The rocker’s wife Sharon, and his children Kelly and Jack Osbourne, all agreed.

“I feel so sorry for her,” Kelly said, with her brother calling Spears’ behaviour “very sad indeed.”

Meanwhile, Sharon referred to her as “a poor little thing.”

Spears, 42, responded to the family’s criticism in a lengthy Instagram message by referencing Beckinsale’s own recent battles with “cruel people.”

But Spears said the disparagement of Beckinsale is “not as bad” as some of the comments she has read about herself “saying it’s sad that I’m as old as I am and I’m dancing every single day on my IG!!!”

Spears clapped back writing that “I hardly ever dance” and “I’m not poor at all!!!”

The Gimme More singer then revealed she has been teaching dance to teenagers, writing, “I know what it’s like to be judged … I think it’s important to HELP EACH OTHER and invite each other to places that help our souls grow!!!”

Spears concluded her message by suggesting that she would do a photoshoot with Beckinsale “and tell the Osbourne family, who is the most boring family known to mankind, to kindly f— off!!!”
