In the lead-up to Paul George inking a four-year max deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, there were reports of the Golden State Warriors pursuing the star forward. The cap-strapped Warriors needed George to opt in to the final year of his contract with the Clippers and seek a trade to the Bay Area. In other words, the Clippers had to cooperate to facilitate George’s move to their division rival.
According to Draymond Green, George was on board to join the Warriors until the Clippers front office nixed the deal at the last minute.
“A little salty about that,” Green said on “The Draymond Green Show” about George joining the Sixers. “Paul George was going to come to the Warriors. We wanted him…the Clippers didn’t want to play ball. They didn’t want to help him get to where he wanted to go. In turn, they get nothing back [lost George for nothing to Philadelphia].”
