Post your questions for David Duchovny | Film

To say David Duchovny is a busy man is underplaying it. His third studio album Gestureland was released in 2021. If you fancy witnessing The X-Files actor evoking 70s California pop, rock, folk and country, you can catch him live at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire and Latitude festival in July. On his podcast Fail Better, launched in May, he sits down with Ben Stiller, Bette Midler, Sarah Silverman and Freakonomics author Stephen J Dubner to investigate the painful, shameful stings of life.

Duchovny has also written four novels and in 2022 co-authored graphic novel Kepler. On TV, he is now in production on Prime Video’s new psychological thriller series Malice, playing the head of a wealthy and – presumably dodgy – family that is infiltrated by none other than our very own Jack Whitehall. And on the big screen, he has written, directed and stars in Reverse the Curse, based on (yes) his own novel; it is set in 1978 and follows a writer and Yankee Stadium peanut slinger who moves back in with his estranged Red-Sox-fanatic father (played by, yes, Duchovny) after being diagnosed with a terminal illness. The film is out now in US cinemas and on US streaming platforms and we’ll let you know as soon as there’s news of a UK release.

If that wasn’t enough, he also has an MA in English literature from Yale (and almost went on to do a PhD). He is Scottish on his mother’s side, has dabbled in poetry, is fluent in French, sends himself up brilliantly in The Simpsons (anyone remember the photo on his FBI ID card?) and – apparently – is a bit nifty at tennis. So there is plenty to ask the great man when he sits for the Reader Interview next week. Please post your questions below by 6pm on 25 June and we’ll print his answers in July.
