Max to increase cost of monthly ad-free subscriptions

(WJET/WFXP) — Max, formerly HBO Max, joins the growing number of companies raising their monthly subscription prices.

Max is announcing a $1 increase to both of its ad-free subscription tiers. The basic ad-free subscription has risen to $16.99 per month, or $169.99 a year. Their “Ultimate Ad-Free” subscription is now $20.99 a month, or $209.99 a year.

These new rates are effective immediately, while current subscribers will see the price hike reflected in their next bill after July 4.

Each plan has different features and below are the offerings of each tier:

With Ads ($9.99/month):
Streaming on two devices at once and streaming quality at Full HD 1080p.

Ad Free ($16.99/month):
Streaming on two devices at once, streaming quality at Full HD 1080p and 30 downloads to watch on the go.

Ultimate Ad Free ($20.99/month):
Streaming on four devices at once, stream in 4K UHD, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision, and HDR 10 on select titles and 100 downloads to watch on the go, with some restrictions applied.

The price hike comes only 13 days before Season 2 of the “Game of Thrones” series “House of the Dragon” premieres on the service. The first season of “House of the Dragon” saw record-breaking numbers for Max, making it their most-watched series debut of all time, amassing 10 million viewers.
