Biden on debating Trump: ‘Set it up’

WASHINGTON D.C. (NewsNation) — President Joe Biden appears more willing to debate former President Donald Trump ahead of the 2024 election.

When asked Thursday when a potential debate could happen, Biden simply replied “Set it up,” seemingly indicating he’s ready to go at any time.

The president’s reply comes as independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. says he also should be included in that debate.

The only three-way presidential debate in history occurred before the 1992 election, including former Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton alongside independent candidate Ross Perot, who was invited due to his high polling numbers.

While there has been no official word from the Biden campaign, it could come soon. The Biden and Trump campaigns have gone back and forth for months on whether or not we’ll see them take the debate stage ahead of November’s election.

It was brought up again two weeks ago during a live interview on “The Howard Stern Show” when Biden said that he was “Happy to debate Trump.” Trump responded, saying he wanted to do it within days, suggesting at one of his rallies or even at the White House.

Trump took to Truth Social Thursday to call on Biden to schedule the debate, saying they can do it again at the White House or in New York City, where the former president is currently on trial.

The Biden campaign has yet to put something on the schedule. Previously, Biden said a debate would be contingent on Trump’s behavior.
