Hip-Hop D.J. Mister Cee has died

(NewsNation) — Mister Cee, a longtime New York City D.J. and influential figure since the dawn of hip-hop in the 90s, has died. He was 57. There’s no word yet on a cause of death.

Mister Cee “leaves a legacy none of us privileged to have worked with him will EVER forget,” said The Block NYC brand manager Skip Dillard in a Linkedin post. “Rest in peace my friend.  We’ll be there for your family and millions of fans.”

The Block NYC is where Mister Cee hosted a hip-hop throwback show. But he’s best known in New York for the more than 20 years he spent at the city’s hip-hop leader, Hot 97.

Born Calvin Lebrun in 1966, Mister Cee was an early supporter of the Notorious B.I.G., and also helped advance the careers of 50 Cent and Big Daddy Kane.

The Block NYC honored Mister Cee by playing his 2022 tribute to the Notorious B.I.G. on what would have been his 50th birthday.
