More discrimination against Jews, Muslims? Yes, say more Americans

(NewsNation) —  A rising number of Americans believe there is more discrimination aimed at Jews and Muslims, according to a new poll.

The Pew Research survey says 40% of those asked believe that Jews are discriminated against more often these days. That’s up from 20% of the people asked that question in 2021.

44% share the same sentiment about discrimination against Muslims, up from 39% three years ago.

Most people surveyed also say they’re in favor of free speech on all sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

70% expressed said that speech supporting Israel’s right to exist, while 58% favored allowing speech that opposes Israel’s right to exist.

66% favor allowing speech supporting the idea of a Palestinian state, and 61% favor allowing speech opposing Palestinian statehood.

As for their personal responses to what they read and hear on the issue: 74% of Jews and 60% of Muslims say they’ve been offended by something they saw or read about the Israel-Hamas war.

27% of Muslims and 26% of Jews say they’ve stopped talking to someone in person, or blocked someone online, because of comments about the war.

The Pew survey contacted 12,693 U.S. adults and was conducted between February 13 and 25. Pew says that number includes an oversample of American Jews and Muslims.
