Following the blockbuster critical acclaim and $1.4 billion box office of Top Gun: Maverick, a third film’s announcement was only a matter of time.
Top Gun 3 has been in the works since the start of the year with plans to reunite Tom Cruise with his co-stars Miles Teller and Glen Powell.
Top Gun: Maverick co-writer Ehren Kruger is working on a script and director Joe Kosinski is expected to direct or produce.
And now franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer has spoken out on the upcoming blockbuster confirming that Cruise will continue to lead the storyline.
Speaking with Screen Rant, Bruckheimer said: “It will be Tom Cruise. Tom is amazing. We spent time with him. We have a story. Joe Kosinski had a wonderful story idea for it, and he (Tom Cruise) said I really like that, so we’re developing it.
“But you never know when it’s going to get made because Tom is so busy. He’s doing Mission: Impossible right now, he’s got a picture after it. Hopefully, we’ll get a screenplay that he loves, and we’ll be back in the air again.”
