(NewsNation) — A prayer app called Hallow, partnered with Mark Wahlberg, has taken off, reaching No. 1 on the Apple app store.
“It’s been a blessing for us to watch what God’s done with this over the last couple of years,” CEO Alex Jones said Tuesday on NewsNation’s “CUOMO.”
With 18.5 million downloads and 473 million prayers, Jones said he hopes the app reaches people who have “fallen away” from or “just aren’t that interested” in their faith.
“Mass can seem kind of intimidating to folks, as can church confession,” Jones said. “They’re hard and big barriers. I think just trying an app, just sitting for five minutes in silence, is a little bit easier.”
Users who download the free app can choose a session length, select a guide and be led in a meditation or prayer session. They also have the option to subscribe for an upgrade.
“I think what it does is it introduces you to a much fuller and richer life that hopefully leads you back to the church. We’re not trying to replace the church in any way,” Jones said.
