The Los Angeles Chargers have released wide receiver Mike Williams, the team announced Wednesday.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday that the move saves the Chargers $20 million against their cap and makes the team cap compliant.
Schefter also reported that eight-time Pro Bowl defensive end Khalil Mack will remain with the team, and free up salary cap space by restructuring his contract.
Williams, 29, will now become a free agent and is expected to have a number of suitors. In seven seasons with the Chargers, he caught 309 passes for a total of 4,806 yards and 31 touchdowns.
Injuries have been a big problem for Williams throughout his career. Last year, he suffered a torn ACL in a Week 3 game against the Minnesota Vikings, ending his season.
