Decision Desk HQ calls Georgia election for Biden

(NewsNation)  — President Joe Biden clinched the Democratic nomination Tuesday in Georgia, earning enough delegates to proceed to the November general election, according to unofficial results from Decision Desk HQ.

The race is expected to be a rematch between Biden, 81, and 77-year-old former President Donald Trump, for whom Decision Desk HQ called the GOP nomination following Georgia’s election.

Biden entered Tuesday needing 113 delegates to hit the 1,968 required to win the Democratic nomination. The swing state’s votes helped him cross that threshold despite some pushback from progressives who oppose Biden’s handling of Israel’s war against Hamas.

Author Marianne Williamson and U.S. Rep. Dean Phillips, D-Minn., also were in the running for the Democratic nomination. Biden, however, maintained his position as a clear front-runner along the campaign trail, gearing up for what will be the first presidential election rematch in almost 70 years.
