No one wanted to jinx it, but the facts are the facts. When Vanity Fair hosts its annual “film toast” just before the Oscars, whichever film it honors tends to bode well at Sunday’s show. (Previous years have honored Everything Everywhere All at Once and Parasite.)
For this year’s film toast, Oppenheimer was the honoree at a celeb-packed house party co-hosted by Saint Laurent and NBCUniversal. Up in the Los Feliz hills, just minutes from where Sunday’s big event will take place, the John Lautner-designed home of Mitch Glazer and Kelly Lynch was the perfect mid-century backdrop for the chic soiree. The evening began with an intimate dinner party for the French house’s fans like Zoë Kravitz, Channing Tatum, and Hailey Bieber, as well as Oppenheimer stars like Cillian Murphy, Casey Affleck, Josh Hartnett, and Robert Downey Jr. Vanity Fair’s Radhika Jones, Saint Laurent’s Anthony Vacarello, and Universal’s Dame Donna Langley were also anchoring the dinner.
As the meal wined down, guests like Charli XCX and Anja Rubik began arriving and the evening moved outside, where everyone lounged side-by-side on low-slung sofas, taking in the glittering city views, while Latin instrumental band Hermanos Gutiérrez provided sounds. Palm trees and a forest of heat lamps for the sub-60-degree weather felt decidedly LA, while a sea of black outfits and ashtrays filled with stubbed-out cigarettes were a reminder of the New Yorkers in town for the week.
As the night wore on, sliders in black, logo-printed Saint Laurent burger boxes (very Rive Droit) were served, and the crowd grew thicker. Of course, the highlight of the evening was seeing the entire cast of Oppenheimer together, as well as director Christopher Nolan and the range of writers, producers, and crew who were also integral to the film—all of whom will likely be celebrating much more as the weekend moves on.
