Teenager charged with attempted murder after shooting at Sydney gym

A teenager has been charged with attempted murder after a shooting at a gym in Western Sydney.

Some 30 people were evacuated from the gym in Wentworthville, on Wentworth Ave at 7.45pm on Tuesday, February 20, when the gunman allegedly opened fire.

No injuries were reported.

A short time later, emergency services were called to Fulton Ave at Wentworthville, after reports a white scooter was on fire.

The fire was extinguished and the scooter was seized for forensic examination.

A crime scene was established and an investigation was launched.

Following police inquiries, a 19-year-old man was arrested at a shopping centre in Blacktown, about 12pm on Thursday.

He was taken to Bankstown Police Station and charged with attempted murder.

“Police will allege in court the man was part of a joint criminal enterprise responsible for the shooting,” NSW Police said.

He was refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Friday, March 8.
