(NewsNation) — Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told NewsNation he resonates with some libertarian positions, including those on the economy. Could he become the party’s next nominee?
The Libertarian Party convention is set for May. Angela McArdle, the party chair, said she’s not actively recruiting him, but she is in touch with his campaign and other candidates.
“Anyone who is an independent and is liberty-minded or perceives themselves to be liberty-minded should be looking at our ballot access,” she said on “The Hill.”
McArdle noted that not only does the party have ballot access, but it also has experience with ground campaigns for elections.
While RFK’s positions may differ from those of the Libertarian Party in some ways, McArdle noted that he’s aligned with others, and being the nominee could be a mutually beneficial relationship.
“The talk that he gave at Freedom Fest, which is one of the biggest libertarian gatherings in the country in July, was really good. And he talked about free-market solutions to environmental issues, and it seems as though he’s had a sincere awakening on this issue,” she said
