‘Is Jennifer Aniston OK?’: Star shocks audience with speech at SAG Awards while introducing Barbra Streisand

Fans complained they experienced “second-hand embarrassment” while watching actress Jennifer Aniston’s speech at the SAG Awards on Sunday.

The Friends star was tasked with introducing fellow actress Barbra Streisand ahead of the veteran performer receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award — arguably a nerve-racking job.

Joined by Bradley Cooper, the two introduced the recipient, gushing over her lengthy career.

“Barbra. That’s all you have to say, and you know right away,” Aniston told the crowd.

“That face, that voice, that talent. It is a once-in-a-lifetime talent, and how lucky that it is in our lifetime.”

“Music was always playing in my house growing up, and I remember so vividly the first time I heard that voice. I mean that voice, this feeling just washed over my entire body.

“My eyes just welled up with tears. From that moment on, I was madly in love with Barbra, and it was clear that her talent did not end there.”

She went on to reference Streisand’s performance as Fanny Brice in the stage show and film Funny Girl, remarking, “Who could watch her in the role of Fanny Brice and not be memorised by that performance?”

Meanwhile Cooper, who starred in and directed the remake of Streisand’s 1976 movie A Star Is Born, also praised Streisand.

She later took to the stage to a raucous standing ovation and tears of joy from Anne Hathaway to accept the honour.

Streisand recalled, “dreaming of being an actress as a teenager, sitting in my bed in Brooklyn with a pint of coffee ice cream and a movie magazine”.

“I wanted to be in the movies even though I knew I didn’t look like the other women on the screen,” she recalled.

“My mother said, ‘you better learn how to type,’ but I didn’t listen. Somehow, some way, I was very lucky.”

“It’s really a privilege to be part of this profession.”

However, viewers could not stop thinking about Aniston’s introduction, which clearly divided social media.

“Is Jennifer Aniston OK?” one X user asked.

“Jennifer Aniston is giving me such bad second-hand embarrassment from how drunk she is,” a second said.

“Jennifer Aniston doesn’t sound good. Somebody else should’ve done this Barbra Streisand tribute,” a third agreed.

But others were quick to defend the actress.

“People need to relax, I thought she was great,” one supporter said.

“Jennifer gave a beautiful tribute speech for Barbra. Bravo,” said another.
