Pink dines at 4 Pines following Manly Skiff Club ‘disaster’ – manager speaks out

You’ve got to get up and try, try, try.

Try Pink did, to enter the prestigious Manly 16ft Skiff Sailing Club — before being turned away for not having identification.

The global singing superstar had even paid a 50 per cent reservation for a table on Monday, but the club took seriously its “no ID, no entry” obligations under the Registered Clubs Act 1976.

Onlookers say Pink and her group appeared confused by the strict rules but the singer didn’t “throw her weight around” or act like a diva when her entourage was denied entry.

It’s now emerged that, instead, her group decided to try 4 Pines in Manly, an eight-minute walk down East Esplanade towards the wharf.

There to greet them was stunned 4 Pines Manly manager Harriet who said she “couldn’t believe it” when the superstar entered the establishment.

“A member of her team … came in first and was like, ‘Hi, I’m with a group of 15, is it alright if we sit at that table?’ And I said ‘Yeah go for it, we’ve got the space, come on in’,” she told 2GB.

“And she was like ‘Oh thank you so much because we were just refused entry somewhere else and it was a bit of a disaster and I’m with Pink and her team and we’d love to come in for some food’.

“I had to pick my jaw up off the floor and wanted to double-check that I heard that correctly.”

Harriet said she was unaware of where they had been prior to 4 Pines but assumed they had been denied entry because their group was too large.

“Pink was so chill. Everyone was totally relaxed about it,” she said of the singer.

“They just wandered on in, took a seat and I gave them some menus.”

Harriet spilled on what the table ordered, sharing that they went for “a bit of everything”, and adding that Pink opted for a cocktail.

“They ordered loads of food, all the kids were happy, all the friends and family there were having a great time,” she said.

On Thursday, the Skiff Club released a statement describing what had happened.

Secretary manager Matt Hazell apologised to the 44-year-old singer and said Pink “chose to leave” rather than being booted out.

“It’s a shame. We understand the situation was frustrating, and for that, we apologise to Pink,” Hazell said.

“We all missed a real opportunity here to show Pink and her crew some of the best food and hospitality Sydney has to offer.

“The Manly 16ft Skiff Sailing Club extends our sincerest apologies to Pink, her family, and friends for the inconvenience experienced during her recent visit to our venue.

“It’s important to clarify that Pink was not ‘turfed out’; she chose to leave after encountering the sign-in process issue.

“As a 100-year-old sailing club, we have policies to ensure all patrons are signed in correctly.

“However, there was a misunderstanding, and we regret any embarrassment or frustration caused.

“We appreciate (Pink’s) graciousness and hope to welcome her back soon.”
