The Australian brand Kosi has developed an innovative heat pack that can be worn by women during their period to ease cramps and debilitating pain, and the idea was born out of necessity by its founder.
Kellie Johnson suffered from severe period pain from 12 years of age before being diagnosed with stage four endometriosis a decade later.
Heat packs were her lifeline and she owned multiple different styles. Some lived at her office, some at home, but none were really sufficient to treat her pain.

Kellie would typically have two on the go, one for her belly and one for her back, but would struggle to get comfortable as the weight of the fillings would bear down on her bloated tummy.
She would regularly suffer from large red burn patches on her skin where the heat was concentrated.
Sometimes putting them down her pants would help but as soon as she had to stand or move the heat packs wouldn’t be in the right places.
At the same time, Kellie was navigating an endo-related infertility battle, with five consecutive miscarriages in four years before having her daughter Lola just weeks after launching Kosi.
Through her battles with endometriosis and the pain of the recurring miscarriages, Kellie decided to create the perfect pack to get her through the tough — and painful — days.
She bought herself a secondhand sewing machine, and from the lounge room of her home on the NSW Central Coast, she taught herself to sew.
After more than 12 months of researching fabrics and testing designs, Kosi was born in August 2023.
