Doctor says Kate Middleton’s recovery time from abdominal surgery ‘seems like a long time’

The Princess of Wales has left hospital following abdominal surgery and is at home making “good progress”.

Kate was admitted to the London Clinic on Tuesday (January 16) for the planned procedure. Following the surgery, Kensington Palace said the 42-year-old was “doing well” and was expected to remain in hospital for 10 to 14 days as part of her recovery.

After spending 13 days at The London Clinic, Kate headed home today (January 29) to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor where she’ll be reunited with her children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, and continue her recovery.

She is likely to spend the next two to three months recuperating, returning to public duties after Easter.

One expert said staying in hospital for up to two weeks after the surgery “seemed like a long time period”.

Doctor Jen Caudle, from the US, took to YouTube to consider the princess’ condition at the time the announcement was made.

She shared that 10 to 14 days “seems” like a lot but she “had no idea” what the surgery was for.

“Kensington Palace has just released a statement saying that Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, who is 42 years old, has just undergone an abdominal surgery,” Dr Caudle said.

“Apparently according to the statement the surgery was successful, which is a blessing of course.

“They also mention in this statement that this was a planned abdominal surgery, which to me implies it was not an emergency surgery.

“Planned is, in my eyes, certainly better than emergency, although I really have no idea what the surgery was for.

“They do not mention the reason for the surgery.”

She continued: “Remember your abdomen is sort of your belly area but there’s a lot of things in your abdomen, a lot of organs.

“Also it’s unclear whether they actually meant the pelvis, which is lower [and] includes the reproductive organs so you know it’s not really clear what the surgery was for.

“Hopefully it is for a benign condition and again it says it was successful which is great.

“They do say that she will be in the hospital for I believe it’s 10 to 14 days, which you know seems like a long time period but I don’t know UK standards, things might be different because she’s a princess and once again we don’t know exactly the surgery that she underwent and why.”

She added: “We certainly wish the Princess of Wales the best of luck.”

According to the NHS, it can take up to six months to feel “back to normal” from abdominal surgery.
