Mike McCarthy has [checks notes] survived once again.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Wednesday that the Dallas Cowboys have decided to retain their head coach McCarthy for the 2024 season. McCarthy is now set to play out the final year of his contract with the Cowboys.
The former Super Bowl champion head coach McCarthy has been in charge of the Cowboys since 2020. While he has gone a stellar 12-5 each of the last three straight seasons, McCarthy still can’t get the Cowboys over the hump in the postseason.
With Dallas’ humiliating playoff drubbing at the hands of the underdog Green Bay Packers this year, many were expecting McCarthy to get fired into outer space.
But McCarthy might have been saved by the fact that he has very strong support in the Cowboys locker room.
Now, just like predecessor Jason Garrett, McCarthy will coach out the final year of his contract (though likely as a lame duck).
