Commanders confirm hiring of Adam Peters as next GM

The Washington Commanders announced that former San Francisco 49ers assistant GM Adam Peters has been hired as the club’s next general manager.

Peters has been in the 49ers front office for nine seasons, including three as assistant GM, and has been a part of three Super Bowl wins in past roles with the Patriots and Broncos.

“The future is bright,” Commanders managing partner Josh Harris said on Monday. “We have a lot of cap space, we have a great ownership group, we’re very committed to winning for this city, and look forward to showing you, in addition to telling you, over the next series of years.”

Peters joins a Commanders team in transition under the new ownership of Harris. His first order of business will be to find a new head coach after Ron Rivera was fired after four seasons. Peters will also oversee an off-season in which the Commanders will pick No. 2 in the draft and will have nearly $87 million in cap space after a sell-off at the trade deadline.
