Rams HC Sean McVay drops hint about future

Despite not getting the result he wanted, Rams head coach Sean McVay put the season in perspective following Los Angeles’ 24-23 loss at Detroit on Sunday.

McVay, who led the Rams to the playoffs for the first time since winning Super Bowl LVI, opened up about the roller coaster of emotions he has experienced since lifting the Lombardi Trophy.

“But man did I learn a lot and really appreciate this group. They helped me find my way again. And how much I love this and the people that I’m around,” he said, adding, “It’s certainly always about people and the people that I’m around. It’s these people, these players, these coaches.”

These comments by McVay, especially coming off a season-ending loss, seem to show a desire to keep coaching. Over the past several seasons, McVay — who became a father for the first time in  October — has been the subject of rumors regarding whether he wanted to step away from the coaching grind.

There’s one big irony of the playoff loss for McVay. The quarterback who beat him is the same player he traded to help get over the hump a few years ago. Former Rams QB Jared Goff got the win for Detroit over his former coach and the other quarterback in that trade, longtime Lion Matthew Stafford.

McVay and Stafford have a Super Bowl ring to show they may have won their side of the deal. Goff, however, earned a huge head-to-head victory Sunday and may have a chance to win a Super Bowl of his own. Per DraftKings as of Monday, Detroit has the fifth-best odds of winning the Super Bowl.

Meanwhile, expect a rejuvenated McVay and the Rams to be back in the hunt for the Super Bowl next season.
