Man, 79, accused of sexually assaulting three women in Etobicoke

A 79-year-old man has been arrested for a string of sexual assaults that allegedly occurred in recent months in south Etobicoke.

In the first incident, Toronto Police say officers responded to a sex assault in area of The Queensway and The West Mall just before noon on Oct. 24, 2023.

Again, the man stood close to the victim, extended his hand for a hand shake, then pulled the victim in closer and sexually assaulted her, police said.

It’s believed the same man struck for a third time at 7:40 p.m. on Tuesday near The Queensway and The West Mall.

Once again, he asked the victim to use a translator application to speak to her, then sexually assaulted her as they were shaking hands.

Investigators released security camera images of a suspect on Wednesday urging anyone who recognized the man to come forward.

A suspect was subsequently identified and taken into custody on Thursday.

Akshata Ahmetaj, of Toronto, is charged with six counts of sexual assault.
