This year belonged to Taylor Swift. At least, judging by to her Time Person of the Year designation, her worldwide Eras Tour, and her blockbuster film. Spending so much time in the public eye is surely exhausting, but it also raises the question: What does one wear when just leaving the house warrants an entire news cycle?
Many stars solve this problem by becoming ambassadors of luxury brands. Louis Vuitton has a gaggle of stars under its belt, including Swift’s good friends the Haim sisters, Emma Stone, and Gemma Chan, among others, while Chanel has Margaret Qualley and Kristen Stewart. But Swift has opted to remain a free agent, dressing to appease herself—and only herself.
Swift’s personal style can often boil down to a few key points: she’s liable to be found in a miniskirt or dress, over-the-knee boots, and—weather permitting—a long coat. She tends to stay in her fashion wheelhouse, though don’t count her out from testing out trends—she did rock the pantless trend this year, after all. But that doesn’t preclude Swift from surprising us with her fashion choices, whether tapping into her inner fashion girl in Jean Paul Gaultier or rocking a bejeweled Alexandre Vauthier Couture hooded jumpsuit.
Below, we recount Taylor Swift’s most exciting looks from 2023—and we hope to see more of where this came from in 2024.
