(NewsNation) — Americans aren’t too thrilled about the possibility of a rematch between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, according to a brand new NewsNation/Decision Desk HQ poll.
The poll not only brings bad news for Biden, it also gives a glimpse into how voters feels about a rematch of the 2020 race and if they think the country is on the right track.
About 59% of Americans say they would not be enthusiastic about a rematch of the 2020 race.
Independent voters will be crucial in determining the outcome of the presidential race this year. The polling found that over half of independent voters were not enthusiastic about a possible re-match between Biden and Trump.
The poll surveyed a thousand registered voters, finding 57% of participants disapprove of Biden’s handling of the presidency.
Back in late November during the last round of polling, the president saw almost the same number.
When asked about the state of the country, two-thirds of the registered voters said they believed the U.S. to be on the wrong track.
The economy and inflation have become two of the top issues for this year’s elections.
The poll also looked into how people are feeling about pocket book issues at home across the nation. Almost half of the participants said their personal finances were worse off than the same time last year.
The polling went beyond the presidential race as well, finding 78% of voters lacked confidence about Congress being able to work together in a bi-partisan way.
When asked about the top priority for their preferred candidate for president, over half of those who responded said they want someone who could be willing to compromise to pass legislation.
