Luka Doncic becomes first player in NBA history to record 95 points, 20 rebounds and 20 assists over a 2-game span

Luka Doncic is on a two-game tear the NBA has never seen before. “Luka Legend” had another spectacular outing in the win against the Houston Rockets after dropping a 60-point triple-double last Tuesday.

Over his last two games, he has scored 95 points, grabbed 33 rebounds and dished out 23 assists.

The Slovenian basketball superstar could have gotten more as he already had a 30-point triple-double in the Mavs’ 129-114 win over the Rockets. He accomplished it tonight with still 5:37 left in the third quarter with an assist to former Rocket Christian Wood.

Counting the last four games, Luka Doncic is averaging a mind-boggling 44.3 points, 12.5 rebounds and 10.5 assists. He is also shooting 57.8% of his field-goal attempts despite all sorts of defensive schemes thrown at him.

More importantly, the Dallas Mavericks are 4-0 during his blistering four-game masterpiece. Dallas has now hiked their record to 20-16 for the fifth seed in the hotly-contested Western Conference playoff race.

Luka Doncic’s next game will be on the road against the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs are looking like they’re all-in for the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes, which could mean another big-scoring night for Doncic.

Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich had this to say about their game plan against the NBA’s most unstoppable scoring machines:

“50 is going to be our goal. We’re holding Luka to under 50!”

In nine games against the San Antonio Spurs, Luka Doncic is averaging 27.9 points, 9.1 assists and 8.5 rebounds. Those numbers should improve if he sustains his sizzling form of late.

Popovich is known to take things with humor when it comes to opposing teams and players. But there is no doubt about the kind of impact and pressure Doncic is putting against defenders.

Luka Doncic could win the 2022-23 NBA MVP award

Luka Doncic could drag the Dallas Mavericks to the playoffs and win his first MVP award.

Luka Doncic, Jayson Tatum, Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokic have taken turns holding the lead for the MVP award. All have legitimate claims to the newly-named Michael Jordan trophy if they remain healthy.

However, Doncic’s blistering form, although very difficult to sustain, could push him past the aforementioned worthy contenders. He could easily make a claim as the player with the most load to carry for any NBA team, particularly without Jalen Brunson.

Doncic’s 33.6 points are nearly twice Christian Wood’s 17.4 PPG average. Besides scoring, “Luka Magic” also leads his team in rebounds, assists and steals.

Jayson Tatum, Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokic have an undeniably better supporting cast than the Mavs point guard.

No MVP has won the award with less than 50 wins in a season except for Nikola Jokic during the pandemic-shortened 2020-21 season. The Denver Nuggets won only 47 games that season.

If Doncic can somehow drag the Dallas Mavericks closer to a 45-win season given his supporting cast, he could win his first MVP. It’s an award he rightfully considers unbelievable and an enormous accomplishment.

Doncic is only 23 and could have a stranglehold on the MVP trophy as he reaches his peak years.
